Clifford Pierre-Louis, Hotel Manager – Veranda Pointe aux Biches Hotel

Clifford Pierre-Louis stumbled across the hotel industry when he was still just a little boy. For the past 16 years Clifford has represented Veranda Resorts – always with an infectious good humour and smile.
Meet Clifford.

Hi Clifford. Can you tell us about your career path?

I began working in the Hospitality industry as a Trainee Waiter before specializing in Food and Beverage, which marked the beginning of my career. I started as Maître d’Hôtel in the Comoros, then became Restaurant Manager, Assistant F&B and F&B Manager in the Seychelles, Restaurant Manager and F&B Manager at the Labourdonnais, a business hotel and finally F&B Manager at the prestigious Le Prince Maurice. It wasn’t until 2001 that I joined the Veranda Palmar Beach as Hotel Manager. It has been sixteen years since I joined the Veranda Resorts family.

What first drew you to the hotel industry?

I discovered the hospitality world early on. As a child I would drop off my father’s lunch every Sunday at his work. At the time, he worked as a security officer at the Grand Baie Bungalow Village, today known as Veranda Grand Baie. It gave me a glimpse of the inspiring hotel industry, which I then pursued.

What do you love about being the Hotel Manager of a hotel?

VLH Excellence Awards

What I enjoy most is the contact with people, whether it is our teams or hotel guests. I’m constantly in contact with others and meeting new people, from whom I’m always learning and therefore evolving. The hospitality industry gathers thousands of people from all walks of life, making for an incredibly rich cultural exchange.

Do you have a word of advice for someone who wants to get into the business?

I encourage our youth to start a career in the hospitality industry – it’s a field that pushes you to grow, and in which people tend to really blossom. It is, however, a physically, emotionally and psychologically demanding career path. You will learn to be patient and tolerant, that’s for sure.

How would you define your relationship with your teams?

I have great admiration and appreciation for the teams with which I work. These are people that give it their best shot to achieve the objectives we set. On a daily basis I would say our relationship is built on respect and trust.

Can you name an experience that is not to be missed at Veranda Pointe aux Biches?

Seven Colours Spa - Veranda Pointe aux Biches Hotel

I’ll name three: cocktail hour at sunset on the beach, by the pool or on the deck; the dinner outdoors on the beach with seafood platters, barbecue or a tasting menu; and the spa that offers bespoke treatments in a room with a view of the sea.

A word to describe your guests ?

“Reason to be,” for without them, this whole sphere would not exist.

Veranda Resorts brings its travellers “Deep into Mauritius.” What is your favourite spot on the island?

There are so many beautiful places in Mauritius. Nostalgia has me saying Grand-Gaube – it’s the village I grew up in and where even today I can fish with a simple rod, a hobby that is reminiscent of my childhood. But Melville, la Nicolière, Chamarel and Bras d’Eau are also places I am particularly fond of.

On that note, Clifford hopes to welcome you soon at Veranda Pointe aux Biches Hotel!
